About Us

At Smarthockey, our mission is simple: to help hockey players of all levels enhance their skills and performance through innovative training products. Founded in the early 2000s by Gard Mayer, Smarthockey was born out of a passion for the game and a desire to create training tools that allow players to practice anytime, anywhere.

It all began in 1983 when a young Gard Mayer discovered inline skates, igniting a fascination with creating training equipment that could seamlessly transition between off-ice and on-ice practice. This early interest laid the groundwork for what would become Smarthockey.

In 1997, Gard designed the C|SAW Chassis, an inline skate chassis that replicated the contact points and boot angles of ice hockey skates. Licensed to Bauer Nike Hockey as the TUUK Rocker Chassis, this innovation marked the beginning of Smarthockey's journey into transforming hockey training.

The breakthrough came in 2001 with the introduction of the Smarthockey Original Training Ball. Engineered to feel like an ice hockey puck on any surface, this ball revolutionized how players trained off the ice. Its success led to the creation of various training balls and pucks, each designed to improve specific skills such as stickhandling, shooting, and passing.
